LOCALLY SOURCED WOOL
We locally source our wool from Jóia Food & Fiber Farm, a regenerative organic farm located in northern Iowa that grows organic perennial pastures, perennial trees and shrubs for nuts and berries and raises sheep, pigs, cows and chickens the all-natural way, regeneratively organic.
Shepherds Johnny and Wendy have transformed and regenerated land that had been planted to monocultures of corn and soybeans for over 60 years to an all-perennial, certified organic, biodiverse landscape, growing a variety of plants to provide food for animals and wildlife while protecting the soil, water and air. They are bringing back grasslands and prairie that was Iowa before colonization. They work with nature not against it, creating a resilient agro-ecological farming system, giving back to nature more than they take.
For every package shipped, Jóia Food & Fiber Farm will plant a resilient native tree to help offset shipping and packaging carbon emissions.
So far, they have planted over 3,350 trees on the farm.
Our Land Acknowledgement
Jóia Food & Fiber Farm and Counting Sheep Sleep Company are located on the ancestral lands of the Ioway people, the Wahpeton (Lakota), the Oceti Sakowin [oh-CHEH-tee shaw-KOH-we] (Lakota, Dakota and Nakota peoples), and Sauk and Meskwaki peoples. This land was taken away from them due to colonization. Both Jóia Food & Fiber Farm and Counting Sheep Sleep Company acknowledge that there is a lot of work that needs to be done to make right the wrongs of the past. We are committed to empowering, building relationships and supporting these Indigenous nations.
We acknowledge that our efforts are not going to undo the past but we are committed to understanding the past, taking action in the present and helping ensure a just and equitable future.
2.5% of every sale is donated to these indigenous nations on a quarterly basis.
We encourage you to utilize your privilege to learn about, empower and support Indigenous voices and nations too.
Their unwilling sacrifice is part of all of our stories.
A percentage of every Counting Sheep Sleep Company sale will be donated to the Ioway nation, the LakotaDakotaNakota nation, the Oceti Sakowin Community Academy and the Meskwaki nation.

Driftless Tannery is located in Southwestern Wisconsin’s beautiful driftless region. The Tannery is a small, women-owned and operated company that strives to treat animals, the environment, and their customers with respect. Every hide is tanned naturally and responsibly, without the use of heavy metals or harsh chemicals, giving farmers and retail clients beautiful sheepskin and goat hides, naturally.
Offering tanning services to farmers for value-added items for their farms, and gathering hides that would otherwise become a part of the waste stream is an important part of what Driftless Tannery does.
Dedication to the craft of tanning is a way of supporting farmers, and of honoring the animals by preserving their beauty.
Doing so naturally, without harmful chemicals, supports the Tannery’s mission to protect and preserve water quality and the environment.

Started in 2010 out of a desire to connect with their food and be an active participant in the food process, Wendy and Johnny moved to Iowa from Los Angeles to live a life filled with intention and genuine purpose. Their agroecological practices, growing food working with nature, focuses on biodiversity, the sharing and collaboration between soil, plants and animals working together to create healthy soil, healthy plants, healthy animals, healthy environment and most importantly healthy food and fiber. Their farm is the connector between the natural world and small-scale food and fiber production. They raise organic grains, pigs, sheep, cows and poultry and use regenerative organic methods to nurture the land so that it can continue to grow food abundantly for many, many years. Their products are certified Animal Welfare Approved.
